2017 has been a year of change for Friends of Aytoun Hall (F of AH). A resolution was passed at the last AGM to reduce the number of meetings to bi-monthly from monthly and four new members joined the ‘Friends’ Management Committee. During the period of this report the Management Committee met five times; in May, June, September, November and January. The March meeting was unavoidably cancelled owing to sickness. All meetings during the period of this report were open to the public. The Committee comprised eleven members for much of the year. One member moved out of Postcode PH3, but was elected to remain active as a co-opted member together with a mid-term new recruit. Perth & Kinross Council decided to withdraw from providing an ex-officio member for the committee. Overall, the Management Committee has been strengthened with broadening its number of trustees, but has lost its dedicated point of contact within the Local Authority. However, an excellent working relationship continues to exist between Live Active Leisure (the Hall Operator) and F of AH committee through the cooperation of the hall keepers and periodic bilateral meetings with the LAL Halls Operations Manager.
The Charity is well imbedded in the town, gains popular support and continues to represent the Aytoun Hall’s users. Income from use has consistently risen throughout the year and more commercial users are now present. Furniture, fixtures and fittings continue to be maintained and checked regularly, with replacement items being purchased when necessary; this year to the value of £3,703. The Charity continues its policy of directing all of its capabilities and energy into maintaining standards in the Aytoun Hall and to ensure its continuance as a first rate community asset. The Galley Kitchen was recently deep cleaned. Additional cutlery and crockery were purchased to cater for 120 covers. New Information Banners were purchased for the foyer of the Hall’s main entrance.
F of AH has built on previous years to maintain a high profile in the community. The ‘Friends’ organised fundraising events in March and September, continued to operate fundraising projects and seek income from grant sources when appropriate. It has encourage entrepreneurial activity through the provision of advice and assistance, with a view to improving quality of life in the community; in particular, the budding Auchterarder Arts
Trust. F of AH also provided a venue and administrative support to the Community School of Auchterarder’s ‘gift’ of two lunchtime concerts for the community in June, which has become a regular event after 3 consecutive years. It has also continued to sponsor the Community Christmas Fair by providing the venue.
Difficulties with the provision of wifi was experienced when the provider pulled out of the scheme. Perth & Kinross Council filled the void in extending cover to include the whole building from the Auchterarder Library. Better and more effective use of social media is being pursued to make more local people aware of the Aytoun Hall’s facilities and potential.
Transparent working practices continue to be used. A hard copy of the minutes are placed in the Auchterarder Library. They are also posted regularly through the town’s principal website: auchterardertown.co.uk, which is administered by the Auchterarder Community Partnership. The local media are used to disseminate information about projects and events. A ‘Friends of Aytoun Hall’ page has recently been established on Facebook.
The Management Committee continues to be grateful for the continuing support of the community in carrying out its function in the town. The fund raising events could not be operated without volunteers. I very much appreciate the time and effort given by members of the Management Committee and applaud their continued commitment. In closing I would like to thank Pauline Parr for her excellent contribution over the years as Vice Chair and as the committee’s principal liaison with volunteers and other organisations. Her ‘Friends’ on the committee will miss her.
