Today I visited Maries Little Cake Shop in the High Street of Auchterarder. Marie had kindly offered to be an outlet for the print edition of Lang Toon Times and as I had never visited the shop it was a good opportunity to catch up.
At this point I have to confess, I haven’t watched Bake Off. Which I know some will find unusual however, it means I went into Maries with no preconceptions which was good, I think anyway.
Marie was happy to let me take photos and explained that some of the display cakes were from Bake Off, others were speciality cakes made since then. With macarons, cupcakes, confectionery and the possibility of afternoon tea there was a much wider selection available than I had originally expected.
After taking the photographs I noticed the tasting trays on the shop counter, there were quite a few to choose from, one of which was home made tablet.
Well if I thought I was done with the keep fit, I was wrong, that tablet is delicious and melts in the mouth. I have a feeling after the number of pieces I ate from the tasting tray and the bag I bought that I may have to get back to fitness training sooner rather than later.
Sweet treats abound and Marie is more than happy to discuss any speciality cakes you may be looking for. See pictured the cake made on a fishing theme, who knew you could have such realistic looking edible fishing tackle.
It seems my lack of Bake Off knowledge was no hinderance to my appreciation of delicious tablet and the obvious skills on display in the shop. Whether you are a Bake Off fan or just appreciate good baking then you should pop in to Maries and indulge yourself.
